Comic nerds treat Comic-Con season the same way baseball fans treat the month of April: optimism abounds, anything is possible, and wishful thinking seems less wishful.
With that in mind, you can understand why Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fans went a little bonkers speculating about part of a San Diego light rail train that the show had wrapped ahead of next month’s mammoth San Diego Comic-Con.

The black scheme features a glowing S.H.I.E.L.D. logo and a fiery chain running the length of the train. It’s the chain that fueled the imaginations of fans and comic publications (desperate for content in the lazy summer months) alike.
For a hot second, everyone thought this was a sign that, next season, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was going to feature the Marvel character Ghost Rider, who, along with his flaming skull and motorcycle, uses a fiery chain to punish the wicked.
Ghost Rider’s film/TV rights have reverted back to Marvel; this is true. How soon does everyone forget that another Marvel character, Hellfire, uses a flaming chain as a weapon. And that he is a bad guy turned good. And that he is a Secret Warrior. AND THAT HE WAS ON AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. JUST LAST SEASON!!
Ghost Rider seems more primed for a movie reboot (which Norman Reedus is on the record as being down for) or for it to be part of Netflix’s stable once it does The Defenders.
