Last night, just prior to the Rio Olympics’ 200-meter butterfly semifinals, a highly amusing pre-show routine between Michael Phelps and Chad le Clos played out in the dressing room. As the two rivals waited, each readied himself in his own manner, with le Clos seemingly playing a little intimidation game and Phelps *ignoring* his South African competitor.
After the qualifying race, a reporter couldn’t help asking about the incident. Phelps hadn’t seen the video and did his best to play it off:
I was trying not to really even look at him. He does his thing, I do my thing. I was watching the heat in front of me and seeing what they were going.
