Two TV Favorites are Rumored as Deapool 2’s Domino and Cable

Never having read Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza’s Deadpool comic, I was utterly delighted and surprised by Tim Miller’s fantastically fun movie and Ryan Reynolds’ brilliant performance. Whether you were likewise gobsmacked or simply had your expectations fulfilled, it’s no surprise a sequel was quickly confirmed. Box office numbers don’t lie and Fox isn’t entirely made of dumb, so all that’s left to do is wait for 2016’s third highest grossing film (so far) to round up new friends and foes. Over the past few days, some exciting names have popped up; one is confirmed to be Miller’s first choice — but not the studio’s — and the other is a quirky actress who’s perfectly poised for world domination.

First up, as mentioned by Jeff Sneider in this week’s Meet the Film Press (at the 52:10 mark) and echoed by Nerdist, Bloodline‘s murderous cop and your favorite Coach (Taylor) is the director’s choice to play New Mutants/X-Force leader Cable, aka Nathan Summers.

However, before you get too excited, the studio has another name in mind:

That’s a tough choice. I’d probably go with the director’s pick, mostly because I’d love to see the Reynolds/Chandler onscreen chemistry …

… but also because of the actress whose name popped up for first choice as Deadpool 2‘s “scene stealer” and fellow X-Force member Domino (aka Neena Thurman), who at times has an intimate relationship with Cable.

Blade Runner 2, The Martian, Black Mirror, and Halt and Catch Fire‘s Mackenzie Davis is 29; Chandler is 50 and Neeson is 64; you do the math. Out of all these actors, though, it’s Davis that I’d most like to see added to the Deadpool franchise. She’s a huge talent — one of the best parts of H&CF — Marvel would be so smart to snap her up.

We’ll be keeping an eye on these intriguing casting rumors.
