Please pardon my sacrilegiousness, but I may have a crush on The Young Pope. Luckily, he’s merely fictional but, oh, my goodness, can you imagine if a real pope looked like Jude Law? Moving right along, this period drama coming to Sky Atlantic and HBO looks phenomenal: starring Law as the unscrupulous Pope Pius XIII, director Paolo Sorrentino’s dark vision of a fictional leader ready to “ignite a revolution.” With Diane Keaton on board as Sister Mary, the nun who raised him (as Lenny Belardo), and James Cromwell’s Cardinal Spencer, Belardo’s mentor, we are all ears (well, maybe all eyes).
Watch the teaser, and I defy you to resist this magnetic Young Pope‘s power.
Here’s the international trailer:
The Young Pope also stars Silvio Orlando, Sebastian Roché, Scott Shepherd, Cécile de France, Javier Cámara, Ludivine Sagnier, and Toni Bertorelli. It airs in ten episodes, all directed by Sorrentino (The Great Beauty, Youth) on Sky Atlantic, beginning October 27th, and on HBO February 2017.
