J.J. Abrams Isn’t Done Forking with Our Heads Yet, Announces New HBO Space Series

HBO knows a good partnership when they see it, and following on the heels of Westworld‘s success (it was the network’s most watched first season ever), they’ve announced a new collaboration. Glare, presumably a winking nod to his overused lens flare, will explore the space colonization of some as yet unknown planet. The hourlong series again pairs HBO with Abrams’ Bad Robot (WiB? No, I’ll never let that theory die …), and Abrams will executive produce the project, just like he does Westworld.

Not much is known beyond the general show description; Spanish screenwriter, Javier Gullón (Enemy, Invader) will write the script. But, some people (me) are already dreaming of the crossover potential, if in fact, those Westworldis-on-another-planet theories ever prove correct. Because, who wouldn’t want to see Maeve and Hector escape, discover they’re stuck on some crummy planet, and make their way to where the humans are settled just to fork with them? Their love is clearly too hot to stay cooped up in Westworld the rest of thier loops lives.

I’d also love to see Abrams set up a woman showrunner (hey, how about Michelle MacLaren?) and/or a female lead. Wherever they go with Glare I’m just excited to have another space series headed our way, especially on HBO, because we know they’ll do it right.
