Hey, if ping pong is a Star Wars prerequisite, I’d like to throw my
hat paddle into the ring! I currently dominate the family (dining room) table.
As confirmed by StarWars.com, Emmy winner and Academy Award nominated Woody Harrelson has signed on to play an unknown role in the series’ second anthology film about young Han Solo. Harrelson is obviously a brilliant actor, and though I have my doubts about just how his twang will fit into the universe, obviously the mere mention of his ping pong skills completely changes everything. Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (The Lego Movie, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) made the announcement with this comment:
We couldn’t be more excited to work with an artist with as much depth and range as Woody. His ability to find both humor and pathos, often in the same role, is truly unique. He is also very good at ping pong.”
This is the closest thing to evidence I found.
Well, there you have it, folks. Woody joins Alden Ehrenreich, who plays young Han, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover (Lando Calrissian), and if they have it their way, Melissa McCarthy and Jodie Foster (kidding!). Rumor has it that Harrelson may be playing Han’s mentor, and of course he’s an excellent actor, so let’s set aside our initial emotions. We hear the script is great.
