Can I Confess These Things to You? The Red Band Trailer for Julia Ducournau’s Raw Might Make You Want to Crawl Out of Your Skin

I’ve been keeping an eye on this movie which — like last year’s breakout, The Babadook — is directed by a woman and receiving rave reviews. Although, there were also reports that at its first (TIFF) showing, multiple people passed out (*Major SPOILERS at that link), I don’t want to say too much about the subject matter. You’ll get the gist from this insane red band trailer.

***WARNING:  This contains disturbing imagery, including wounded/dead animals. ***

It looks gruesome, and terrible and wonderful — except, that scratching part truly made me want to crawl out of my own skin. I’ve had a couple of severe allergic reactions in my life; talk about a horror show …  Regardless, it’s very cool to see women directing such brilliantly twisted and visceral stories as this one. In that vein, you should also check out the XX teaser, featuring four stories by female directors (Karyn Kusama, Annie Clark, Roxanne Benjamin and Jovanka Vuckovic):

I really don’t want to know what was in that box.

Raw stars Garance Marillier, Ella Rumpf, Rabah Naït Oufella and is in theaters March 10th. XX stars Natalie Brown, Melanie Lynskey, Breeda Wool, Christina Kirk, Michael Dyson, Sheila Vand, Mike Doyle, Susan Jacobs, Angela Trimbur, Kyle Allen, Peter DaCunha, Peyton Kennedy, and hits theaters February 17th.
