Back to Russia, with Love: Viggo Mortensen and Vincent Cassel Set to Return to Eastern Promises Sequel, Body Cross

***NSFW/C images follow***

… speaking of Russia (*coughnotTrumprelated*), does anyone remember this?

How about this?

Or this?

OF COURSE YOU DO. Because, it’s only one of the greatest fight scenes ever, featuring one of our greatest actors, Viggo Mortensen (in a film by one of my favorite directors). Beyond that incredible sequence, Eastern Promises was a full on heart-thumping, sometimes terrifying peek into the world of the Russian mafia, and we’ve been waiting ten years for the follow-up (written by Steven Knight in 2014). It looks like our dreams are finally coming true.

Via Digital Spy comes word of casting notices for the Promises sequel, Body Cross (aka Eastern Promises 2), filming in the UK this March:

***Major Spoilers for Eastern Promises***

The sequel picks up where the 2007 film left off — with the incompetent underboss Kirill thinking that he and his henchman driver Nikolai really have inherited the throne from his crime-lord father, without knowing that Nikolai is actually a clandestine agent working undercover in Russia’s federal security service.”

Nikolai (Mortensen) and Kirill (Vincent Cassel) are both integral to the story, Knight (who’s also written another naked, tattooed man’s tale, and Peaky Blinders) is obviously in, so all we need is confirmation that Cronenberg will return to direct.

We wait.
