Stranger Things Reunites Its Cast in the Upside-Down, Adds a Couple Big Names for Season 2 *Updated

When 80s worlds collide, I guess you get Mad About Stranger Teenage Mutant Things?

Fresh off the high of his Mr. Robot fan club recommendation …

… Paul Reiser has signed on for Stranger Things as high level Department of Energy man, Dr. Owens, sent in to clean up after certain Season 1 events.

(for those of you crazies who aren’t watching Mr. Robot, Sam Esmail opened a Season 2 episode with a throwback sitcom vibe, and a character who’d been marathoning Mad About You tossed in this line:  “My man Paul Reiser, he doesn’t get the credit he deserves.”)

Also joining the cast is Samwise Gamgee, himself, Sean Astin (more recently of The Strain and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), who’ll star as Hawkins’ local Radio Shack manager and Joyce Byers’ nerdy high school pal, Bob Newby.

Bob is a good guy described as “kind-hearted”, making him someone our gang surely needs on their side.

*Updated:  According to David Harbour, Astin’s Bob will be Joyce’s romantic interest.

We have Sean Astin… he’s Winona’s new boyfriend — much to the chagrin to the Chief of Police …

It’s a year later in the story, so there are several things that happened last year — like Will has come back — there are certain people in the town that know what happened, and then certain people that don’t know what happened. So there’s a lot of fall out with who knows what.”

Harbour also said Barb’s memory will live on, with Nancy feeling like nobody cares that her friend is gone. Honestly, I never felt much of a connection with Barb, so … I guess, I don’t much care?

Finally, Danish newcomer Linnea Berthelsen (The Desert [2017]) joins as what sounds like another numbered girl/lab experiment victim a la Eleven:  “an emotionally damaged, magnetic young woman who suffered a great loss as a child”. I mean, if there’s an Eleven, we know One through Ten are out there somewhere, and we were bound to run into at least a couple more of these kids. *coughGoddamnedDepartmentofEnergycough*

Berthelsen, Astin and Reiser join Stranger Things Season 2 newbies, Dacre Montgomery and Sadie Sink (as siblings Billy and Max, respectively). The new folks join Season 1 stars Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Winona Ryder, David Harbour and Matthew Modine. And, we just can’t wait to see what creepyfun adventures the kids have next. See you on the other side, hamsters.
