Here’s My Story, It’s Sad But True: American Gods‘ Emily Browning Transforms for a Double Role in Episode 7’s “Coming to America”

***Spoiler Warning:  Spoilers for American Gods, Episode 7 follow.***

Someone’s kissing Laura Moon and it’s not Shadow.

That’s because in much of the next episode of American Gods, Emily Browning is playing someone other than Laura Moon.

In Neil Gaiman’s novel — Chapter 4, “Coming to America” — Mr. Ibis writes of a thief, con artist and prostitute named Essie Tregowan; in the series she arrives as Essie MacGowan (Browning), and according to the author, himself, this CtA will be much longer than the ones we’ve previously seen — in fact, Essie’s story will be woven throughout Episode 7, “A Prayer for Mad Sweeney”:

… we did one long one as an experiment. Originally we’d just done them like five, eight minutes long. And then Essie Tregowan’s story in episode seven and it intercuts with what’s going on now and it’s half the episode. And it’s great.”

Interestingly, Essie’s story will be contrasted against Laura Moon’s, as she, Salim (Omid Abtahi)  and Pablo Schreiber’s Mad Sweeney continue their entertaining road trip, and Sweeney’s “often tragic” backstory is unveiled.

Here’s the episode 7  “Coming to America” preview:

In case you’re wondering, that’s Dion’s wonderful Runaround Sue.

Hey, at least she left the cat some milk …

And, here’s the promo for the other side of the Episode 7 story, with the deliciously dirty, Mad Sweeney.

We’re also expecting a certain old friend with the initials JC — er, JD — to finally arrive.
