Michael Fassbender Takes on Jo Nesbø’s Harry Hole and Hunts Down The Snowman

Bestselling Norwegian author, Jo Nesbø writes a mean thriller and any of his novels I’ve read are ripe for film; perhaps you’ve seen Morten Tyldum’s brilliant adaptation of Headhunters (Hodejegerne), starring Askel Hennie and Game of Thrones‘ Nikolaj Coster-Waldau? It’s no surprise Nesbø’s brilliant, loose cannon, Harry Hole (star of eleven in a continuing series) is coming to town — though I wouldn’t have guessed Michael Fassbender in the role — or that The Snowman is how a good deal of Americans will be introduced to him. This particular book is a hell of a thrill ride, twisty turning to the point where your heart races just reading.

Amusingly, some of my friends were just saying they find Fassie serial killer-ish, so they might be surprised to find out he’s the detective, but Harry is a hot mess — so it all kind of works out. Directed by Tomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), and costarring Rebecca Ferguson as Harry’s partner, Katrine Bratt, the high profile cast rounds out quite brilliantly:  Toby Jones, J. K. Simmons, Chloë Sevigny, James D’Arcy, Val Kilmer, Charlotte Gainsbourg,  and Jacob Oftebro. Here’s the first teaser.

Since that’s only a hint of what’s to come; even just thinking back to that read, I’m slightly freaked out.

The Snowman hits theaters October 20th. READ IT.
