The American Horror Story: Cult campaign is in full swing, with a plethora of creeptastic teasers released, and a shiny, new site viewers can join to unlock tidbits and plenty of nightmarish clowns.
The cast is rounding out with a nice balance of past performers and newcomers, who apparently come with their own clown friends:
Except, it seems, Emma Roberts (character name TBA), which leads me to believe she’ll die pretty quickly.
Other returnees include the fabulous Frances Conroy,
Adina Porter,
and Mare Winningham.
Then there’s this addition, who some might consider to be a clown, herself.
Thrilled that my talented friend Lena Dunham is joining the AMERICAN HORROR STORY family. Always wanted to work together, and now we r!

Murphy loves his tall, dark and handsomes, and he also likes a little stunt casting … so we’ll see how that Dunham thing works out.
As for fond favorites, Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters are back, this time as “star-crossed lovers”, Ally and Kai …
And we know Twisty the Clown somehow plays into this season,
but, I’m thinking that’s less literal and more about the group, itself — the Cult of Twisty will be a group (perhaps led by Billie’s Winter?) of people who idolize and intend to carry on Twisty’s killer legacy. We know the 2016 presidential election is tangentially involved; my assumption is that in the wake of that fateful November morning (just as in real life), emboldened by 45’s hateful rhetoric, clown cult will take it upon themselves to go after people they don’t like. Honestly, this thought and the reality of our post-election world is more frightening than anything Murphy has thus far dreamed up.
Here’s Murphy (I think) all dolled up, himself.
American Horror Story: Cult also stars Leslie Grossman and Chaz Bono, and premieres on FX September 5th.
