Come On Darling, There’s Room for Two: Kate Winslet and Stephen Colbert Give Titanic the Ending We Deserve

This is BRILLIANT. As everyone knows, at the end of Titanic, Jack could easily have climbed up on that door with Rose — and even though she promised to never let go, Rose actually did just let Jack slip away. In celebration of the film’s twentieth anniversary, Stephen Colbert asked Kate Winslet a boatload of questions, including ‘What happened?’ — Rose did indeed let him go. Kate’s answer:  “I lied.” And so, the delightful pair decide to fix that ridiculous ending — after all, there was plenty of room for two!

Among the interesting tidbits La Winslet revealed during the course of the questioning:

  • She and Leo were spritzed with Evian to make the car sex scene even sweatier.
  • James Cameron himself actually did the sketch of Rose — Kate — who clarified she was wearing a bikini when she posed.
  • Winslet auditioned for the movie with Matthew McConaughey; Cameron wanted Leo.

I love how game Kate is for anything and everything, and how much pure fun these two had together; she even got into the fake shivering.

Here’s the whole round of questioning:

This is truly the Titanic ending we all deserve.

Suck it, Leo!
