I’m Not Crying, You’re Crying: Check Out A24’s Gorgeous Lean on Pete

“Oh no”, I thought to myself as the trailer begun — it’s a horse story. I don’t do horse stories … mostly because they’re either overly cloying or the horse inevitably dies. PLEASE DON’T LET THE HORSE DIE.

But, dammit .. A24 nearly always finds a way to get to me (see Moonlight), and this tale of a horse and his boy … a boy and his horse  — reminds me of a certain penguin

— the quiet grace of Charlie Plummer (The Dinner, Granite Flats, Boardwalk Empire) as Charley Thompson sucked me right in.

Based on the novel by Willy Vlautin, and directed by Andrew Haigh (Weekend, 45 Years), Lean on Pete also boasts quirkalicious favorites, Chloë Sevigny and Steve Buscemi, as well as Vikings‘ Travis Fimmel, and Steve Zahn.

Here’s the trailer:

I haven’t read the book, so PLEASE DON’T LET THE HORSE DIE.

Lean on Pete opens in theaters, March 23, 2018.
