Prolific writer and awesome showrunner, Ryan Murphy (Feud, American Horror Story, American Crime Story, Glee, 911 Pose, Nurse Ratched) just locked another series into the schedule, his second snagged by Netflix in mere months. And yet again, the man is not playing around with story or star power.
The Politician will be an hour-long comedy/musical starring Tony Winner and Pitch Perfect‘s Ben Platt as Payton, a wealthy Santa Barbara player, working his way into the local political races — Deadline notes that each season (Netflix picked up two, straightaway) will revolve around whatever contest Payton is involved in. Platt will be featured in several musical numbers, over the course of the series.
In talks to costar — and direct/produce — are none other than Barbara Streisand and Gwyneth Paltrow (whose fiancé, Brad Falchuk is co-creator), though there are no details yet as to what roles the Oscar-winning women will play.
I’m not sure how Murphy finds time for all his projects, but he’ll also direct The Politician’s pilot episode, date TBA.
