John Krasinski and Emily Blunt aren’t just a married couple; they also play one in Krasinski’s upcoming horror feature, A Quiet Place. And, hot damn, does it look good. With shades of District 9 — what are those creatures stalking them? — but a completely different, wordless vibe, the trailer quickly pitches us headlong into its protagonists’ environment … and envelops us in its fear and dread.
Originally written by Bryan Woods and Scott Beck (The Bride Wore Blood, Haunt), and rewritten and directed by Krasinski, the story finds this family hiding out on a farm, simply focused on their day-to-day survival. Krasinski said the script spoke to him as a parent; he’d read it just after the birth of his second child, and got him thinking about what you’d do for your kids to keep them safe. In fact, he and Blunt carried the story with them at home during filming:
We had a joke in our house, when we were shooting and I was writing the script where any time there was a noise my wife and I would just quietly turn to each other and say ‘You’re dead.'”
A Quiet Place also stars Noah Jupe and Millicent Simmonds; it’s in theaters April 6, 2018.
