If you haven’t yet watched David Letterman’s new Netflix interview with Barack Obama, get on that because it’s pure delight — and in watching you might find yourself wishing these two could have a weekly series where they just shoot the shit.
Those Netflix people are clearly smarter than the average streaming outlet, because they’re reportedly in talks with not only our beloved (and in my heart, still) 44th president, but also his adored “better half”, Michelle.
According to reports, a production deal with the Obamas to create inspirational series is in the works, and could feature Barack moderating panels on topics like healthcare, voting rights and foreign policy, while Michelle may host a show focusing on issues she championed as first lady — nutrition, perhaps. While the multi-series deal hasn’t gotten to specific formatting plans, the Obamas are likely to produce stories to lift our hearts and by gods, we need those now more than ever.
Eric Schultz, a senior adviser to Obama, made this statement last night: The Obamas “have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire.”
Now, all we need is former first friend and vice presidential delight, Joe Biden to get in on the action.
