PITT IN SPACE: James Gray Gathers an Incredible Cast for Interstellar Heart of Darkness, Ad Astra

I hope you read that title as if having heard the opening of the Muppets segment, because

a) that’s the only thing in my head since I read about the movie, and

b) we’d actually love to see Brad Pitt doing a Pigs in Space bit with the fabulous Miss P.

Unfortunately, this particular blast-off is not expected to include swine; nevertheless, it will be an exciting trip. You see, not only has director James Gray (The Immigrant, Little Odessa, We Own the Night) brought together an excellent group of actors to join Pitt  . . .

Tommy Lee Jones

Ruth Negga

Donald Sutherland

LisaGay Hamilton

Jamie Kennedy

. . . he’s also set us up with Jones as Brad’s long-lost father, and (“The Horror! The Horror!”) as Kurtz to Pitt’s Marlow, as the film is described by Gray as a “. . . a Heart of Darkness story about traveling to the outer edge of our solar system.”). I don’t know about you, but the thought of TLJ as a madman lost in space nearly makes me giddy. Jones will surely chew all the scenery.

Further details on the other players’ roles are scant, although the director did add that he’s hoping to make “the most realistic depiction of space travel that’s been put in a movie.”

With a script co-written by Gray and Ethan Gross (Fringe), expect fantastical elements in this science fiction thriller that also stars John Ortiz, John Finn, Loren Dean, Ravi Kapoor and Kimberly Elise. Ad Astra hits theaters May 24, 2019.
