Stranger Things finally returns with its third season July 4th and Netflix has graced us with this glorious and jam-packed trailer.
Set in 1985 — also the year of Mötley Crüe’s Home Sweet Home — you’ll notice a few new faces have joined the fold.
That’s Jake Busey (Gary’s son) as Bruce, a Hawkins Post writer with a “sick sense of humor” (after all, Blasphemous Rumors was released in 1984) and apparently, a penchant for guns. He later appears again, a little worse for the wear and with a smattering of blood on his shirt. Everybody say, “Hmm …”
If you’re wondering why Steve’s new friend
looks a little familiar, it’s because there’s another famous celebrity offspring in the midst of Season 3. Maya Hawke, Ethan and Uma Thurman’s daughter, stars as Robin. Described as an “alternative girl looking for a little excitement in her life”, Robin’s uncovering of a dark secret might not be what she had in mind. In case you didn’t catch it, that’s “Sailor” Steve with a gun to his neck (Bruce, is that you?).
How cute is worse-for-the-wear Steve in his little shorts?
I’m not certain which gunman this is, but it reminds me of another 1985 film, To Live and Die in LA.
Speaking of 1985 movies, these leotards are straight out of
Perfect. Just don’t Google the gifs of John Travolta taking Jamie Lee Curtis’ class; they’ll ruin your lunch.
If you wondered who Hawkins’ inconceivably dreamy (if not necessarily nice) new Mayor is,
welcome Cary Elwes aka The Princess Bride‘s Westley.
And this is Francesca Reale as Heather, a lifeguard involved in a mystery, with someone — maybe her mother?
Natalia Dyer and Charlie Heaton are giving me a Lorraine and George (Back to the Future)/Breakfast Club vibe, here.
It looks like Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown, seen with Sadie Sink’s Max) is just as overwhelmed by the new Starcourt Mall’s food court as the rest of us (not just me who walks in circles and then always gets the same thing?).
Maybe that’s why someone returned her “home”, to where the mother lode of Eggos can be found? Still, her bloody nose probably means this isn’t a birthday surprise.
Eleven’s powers come into play several times during the trailer, and it looks as if she has to rescue Jonathan from the monster …
… and I really hope the monster isn’t an “evolved” Billy.
Here’s hoping the gas-masked avengers are good guys, because …
… this thing is horrifying.
Finally, now that Bob is, er … out of the way, shouldn’t Joyce and Hopper be eating together?
Stranger Things Season 3 returns with Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Finn Wolfhard, Natalia Dyer, Joe Keery, Charlie Heaton, Dacre Montgomery, Sadie Sink and Priah Ferguson. Catch it on Netflix July 4, 2019.
