You guys, that is not a friendly face. Abort mission. I repeat, abort.
If you’re a fan of Ari Aster’s Hereditary you know the writer/director is great at building a sense of dread, and the trailer for his upcoming new film, Midsommar has a similarly eerie feel. The simple plot take is of a young couple invited to a friend’s Swedish hometown festival that at first glance, looks to be all springtime and flowers …
… but suddenly leaves us wanting to scream, “GET OUT!”
Have a look for yourself, and then we’ll have a little chat (scream).
Um, yeah. Like I said, “Get out,” because it looks like we’re in a bit of a pagan cult-type situation and I really wish this didn’t involve a black man being abused, but I’m going to hold out hope he manages an escape …
… and that this blood
is from the … bear?
Or, I suppose it could be from this person, who definitely isn’t Superman.
Whatever’s happening, there’s no keeping me away from the theater when Midsommar makes its debut, August 9th.
Midsommar is written and directed by Ari Aster, and stars Florence Pugh, Will Poulter, William Jackson Harper, Vilhem Blomgren, Ellora Torchia and Archie Madekwe.
This is my favorite part (so far):

Here’s the second teaser that somehow manages to impart even more dread. Holy Scheiße!
That we get a little backstory on the couple adds another layer to things; perhaps there was always more to the intent behind their invitation. Color me already terrified and yet, ready to order my ticket for July 3rd.
