Takeshi Kovacs Is Back with a Hot New Face, and Here’s Your First Look at Altered Carbon Season 2

***Spoilers for Altered Carbon through Season 1, Episode 10 follow. Spoilers***

The nature of Richard K. Morgan’s cyberpunk novel (on which this series is based) inherently means its lead character’s face must change and in Altered Carbon‘s second season, that’s not the only shake-up fans will face. Series creator and Season 1 showrunner Laeta Kalogridis has stepped back into the role of executive producer and Alison Schapker (Fringe, Alias) is now running the show. Directors this season include  Jeremy Webb (The Umbrella Academy, Legion), Salli Elise Richardson (Black Lightning, Being Mary Jane), MJ Bassett (Power, Ash vs Evil Dead), and Ciaran Donnelly (Vikings, The Tudors). But, that’s not why you’re here, is it?

You’re here because it’s Mackie time! Anthony Mackie, aka …

***SPOILERAvengers:  EndgameSPOILER***

Captain America is also taking over (from Joel Kinnaman and Will Yun Lee [Lee returns in a recurring role]) as the host body of Takeshi Kovacs.

Joining Season 2 are:

Simone Missick as Tripp. An expert bounty hunter, Trepp is known for her ability to track down anyone in the Settled Worlds, for the right price.

Dina Shihabi as Dig 301. An out-of-work A.I. programmed to assist human archeologists, Dig finds a new purpose when she meets Poe.

Lela Loren as Danica Harlan, the charming and ambitious governor of planet Harlan’s World. She has the support of the people, but keeps an uneasy grip on the political players who surround her.

Torben Liebrecht as Colonel Ivan Carrera. The dogged leader of a Protectorate Special Forces unit known as the “Wedge,” Colonel Carrera is on the hunt for Takeshi Kovacs.

James Saito as Tanaseda Hideki. A centuries-old Yakuza boss, Tanaseda controls organized crime on the planet of Harlan’s World and shares a history with Takeshi Kovacs.

As for who will be back, Renée Elise Goldsberry returns as Quellcrist Falconer, a major focus this round:  “Kovacs is on a quest to find someone he thought long dead: creator of stack technology, leader of the Uprising, and his former love, Quellcrist Falconer.”

Chris Conner‘s glorious Poe also returns.

You know who isn’t mentioned, though? Our queen, Reileen, aka Dichen Lachman.

And as far as I’m concerned, if Quellcrist and Poe are back, so can Reileen be resurrected (please, gods!).

I really loved Kinnaman as Kovacs in the first season and though we don’t get much of a feel from this trailer, I’m hoping for the best with Mackie. These are two roles he’s taking over from super-charismatic actors, so here’s hoping he kills it.

Now that you have all the pertinent info, here’s the first quick teaser for Altered Carbon‘s second season, which premieres on Netflix February 27, 2020.

Netflix’s synopsis:

Season Two of the sophisticated and compelling sci-fi drama finds Takeshi Kovacs (Anthony Mackie), the lone surviving soldier of a group of elite interstellar warriors, continuing his centuries old quest to find his lost love Quellcrist Falconer (Renée Elise Goldsberry). After decades of planet-hopping and searching the galaxy, Kovacs finds himself recruited back to his home planet of Harlan’s World with the promise of finding Quell. Haunted by his past and responsible for investigating a series of brutal murders, Kovacs is stunned to discover his new mission to solve the crime and his pursuit to find Quell are one and the same. With the help of his loyal A.I. Poe (Chris Conner), Kovacs must now partner with new allies to outwit his enemies and find the truth: Who is Quellcrist Falconer?”

My body sleeve is ready.
